Overview
The Chattogram office is an operational office of Bangladesh Bank, headed by an Executive Director. It plays a vital role due to its location in the port city and commercial capital of Bangladesh. The office began with the Foreign Exchange Control Department on 12th July 1948 and started full banking functions from 15th July 1952. Post-liberation, it resumed as Bangladesh Bank on 16th December 1971. It serves districts including Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Feni, Laxmipur, Cumilla, and Chandpur. As an important office of the central bank, it acts as a forum for banks, financial institutions and local business communities and holds meetings, training programs, seminars and workshops for proper implementation of national monetary policy and side by side, ensures its effective role in the banking sector with a view to sustaining the cascade of economic activities towards the targeted growth of Chattogram Division and as well as for the country.

Department of Foreign Exchange

Main Functions
- To monitor agricultural credit operations i.e. the disbursement and recovery of Agricultural Credit of various Commercial Banks.
- Attend meetings of the District Agricultural Credit Committees.

Foreign Exchange Policy Department
Main Functions
- Regulates and facilitates foreign exchange transactions across 11 districts (Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Feni, Lakshmipur, Cumilla, Chandpur and Brahmanbaria). Focus areas include import/export, remittance, shipping agents, money exchangers, and enforcement.
- To monitor and supervise foreign exchange transactions of ADs (Authorized Dealers) focusing specifically on import and export related activities as well as inward and outward remittance flows.
- To monitor the activities of Shipping Lines, Shipping Agents and Freight Forwarders, related mainly to inward remittance, tax, VAT etc.
- To monitor the foreign exchange transactions of money exchangers, collecting reports regularly and renewing their licenses upon application.
- To take Legal Actions against any discrepancies, anomalies or forgeries across the whole system.

SME and Special Programs Department
- Monitor CMSME loan disbursement/recovery and reports.
- Arrange training/seminars on SME financing and resolve CMSME objections.
- Support women entrepreneurs and financial inclusion.
- To scrutinize monthly and quarterly CMSME loan statements sent by Banks and NBFIs to ensure lending in CMSME sector.
- To resolve CMSME related objections from entrepreneurs against Banks and NBFIs with a view to unleashing better opportunities for the CMSME entrepreneurs.
- To co-ordinate and monitor Financial Inclusion related activities in this area.

Department of Banking Inspection
Inspects activities of all banks and financial institutions in scheduled intervals.
Includes 4 wings of Banking Inspection Department.
Customers Interest Protection Cell (CIPC)
Addresses complaints against banks/FIs and mitigates customer grievances.
