Mr. Md Masud Biswas has been appointed as the Head of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Mr Biswas assumed his office on 30 November 2021. Prior to assuming office as the Head of BFIU, he was the Deputy Head of BFIU. In his two terms as the Deputy Head of BFIU, Mr. Biswas played a key role in developing a strong and effective anti money laundering and combating financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) regime in Bangladesh.
Mr. Biswas began his career in Bangladesh Bank as an Assistant Director in 1988. He has 33 years of extensive Central Banking career. As Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, he has overseen the functions of Department of Off-Site Supervision, Financial Integrity and Customer Services Department, Financial Sector Support and strategic Planning Department, BFIU, Foreign Exchange Inspection Department, Governor's Secretariat etc. In addition, he has served as Secretary to the Board of Directors, Bangladesh Bank and simultaneously supervised Secretary's Department. During his long served career in different positions, he also has served the Foreign Exchange Policy Department, Banking Regulation and Policy Department, Payment Systems Department, International Department (currently Forex Reserve and Treasury Management Department), and World Bank project in different roles. He was Project Director of Financial Sector Support Project (FSSP) funded by the World Bank.
Mr. Biswas was a Director to Board of the Bangladesh Municipal Development Fund (BMDF). He was observer to Mercantile Bank Ltd. and NRBC Bank Ltd. His prudential guidelines and advices, as an observer in the board, helped the two commercial banks to be exited from the list of problem banks, by improving the financial health and CAMELS rating.
Mr. Biswas was born in Chuadanga in a respectable Muslim family on 18 January 1963. He achieved M.Com in Management and also completed MBA. He has attended several trainings, seminars and workshops in home and abroad as participants and resource persons as well. In his illustrious career, Mr. Biswas visited the USA, the UK, China, Pakistan, Thailand, Russia, Indonesia, Philippines, Switzerland, Malaysia, Nepal, Myanmar etc. to attend various courses, seminars and conferences organized by international institutions; notably, World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Asian Development Bank (ADB), New York Federal Reserve Bank (FRB). He attended different programs, both domestic and international, as guest speaker as well as panelist where he delivered lectures in his expertise arena. In personal life, he has a happy family with spouse and two children, one daughter and one son. The daughter is studying MBA at BRAC University and the son is a student of St. Joseph College, Dhaka. His spouse is a proud homemaker.
