We express our deepest condolence on the sudden death of Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank on 17 may 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey. Mr. Alam died while attending a workshop in Istanbul. He was 55. Mr. Alam joined Bangladesh Bank in 1976. He was a devoted and highly professional central banker with highest standards of integrity. During more than 35 years of career in Bangladesh Bank, he performed challenging responsibilities in various departments including Banking Regulation & Policy Department and Foreign Exchange Policy Department. Besides, he was the member secretary of the commission of enquiry on Jubo Karma Sangsthan Society. As recognition of his excellent performance, Mr. Alam was awarded Bangladesh Bank Employees Recognition Award in 2006 for exceptional contribution and outstanding efforts in policy formation contributing to sound banking system in Bangladesh. He received his Master's degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University, USA where he was among the top students in his graduating class.
